Speed & Reliability

"Great reliability, average speeds"

During the week of testing Ivacy connected without issue to the location I had selected from an extensive list. The connection was made within seconds and it remained connected without any issues for as long as I'd choose, this included overnight. So reliability GREAT.

Now although Ivacy has won awards for speed my experience saw a typical drop in speed once connected. I have seen this with all the VPN's that I have tested. The drop was not significant enough to ruin my streaming experience, even though I was using an old school ADSL connection - I am still waiting for NBN (Australians will understand what I am talking about!).

Security is strong and powerful military grade encryption is used. Ivacy encrypts your traffic so that it can’t be read by third parties such as your internet service provider or your local Wi-Fi operator.

The VPN has standard encryption and security with 256-bit military-grade encryption and several protocols including IPSEC, IKeV, L2TP, OpenVPN, TCP and UD.

On top of that, Ivacy has a kill-switch, which will cut your internet connection if there is a leak. To be honest, I cannot see a use for this but all operators seem to have it.

Support & Usability

Good with room for improvement”

I contacted support a couple of times, once during the initial setup and one during use. On setup I connected with them via their online chat accessible from the main site page. I received an immediate response and my password issue got resolved. Now my experience was a little different once I'd signed up - still good! as they were very responsive I had to initiate the help via submitting a request, basically sending an email - online chat was not immediately available or I couldn't find it.

Ivacy has a clean intuitive interface. My only grumble is when selecting the city to connect to that there is no filter by country. I had to guess the city when used on an Android TV Box where the dropdown lists are were not visible, either that or scroll through a long long list. A minor issue, but frustrating all the same. Otherwise, the user interface is as one would expect with easy connect, disconnect and is noninvasive once setup.

Plans available

5 year plan at $1.33/mo"

Ivacy offers attractively priced plans. Similar to its peers there is a 1 month, 1 year and a 2 year plan. What makes Ivacy unique is its 5 year plan that can currently be purchased for the equivalency of just $1.33 per month. I am not sure for how much longer this will be available, they must be losing $$$ at this price!

The most popular plan is the 2 year, which is a reasonable length to commit to for most of us. It is competitively priced, especially as it comes with 5 simultaneous connections and is unlimited in data.

Sites & Access

Initially, I had trouble connecting to the popular BBC iPlayer. I contacted Ivacy’s support, who were very responsive and helpful (although not available via online chat). They soon provided details on how to connect with the installation of a Chome browser extension.

Server location

Whilst Ivacy has a respectable number of servers across 100+ locations, it is not in the same derision as some of the heavyweights with 1000’s of servers. Although it's not all about numbers, the number of servers and their location gives an indication as to the investment made in the service offering and likely reliability, connection speed and flexibility in routing.
